چکیده
Abstract Minimizing environmental pollution from Tailings Storage Facilities (TSFs) is one of the key goals mining sector. While much attention given to risks potential catastrophic failures large TSFs, there also a need assess due noncatastrophic but more frequent releases contaminants. In response this need, article proposes method for prioritizing TSFs in terms flood exposure, based on maps produced by Shallow Water Integrated Flood Tool. The was implemented using case study event Copiapó city region (Atacama, Chile). A sensitivity analysis carried out evaluate influence different model configurations and input parameters. results showed that 10% all were exposed waters fluvial dynamics Copiapo River. Additionally, revealed extreme local precipitation, capable generating runoff, up 88% could have some degree exposure. suggest simulations satellite‐derived terrain data at moderate resolution can be used preliminary large‐scale assessment TSF

Predicting Flood Inundation and Risk Using Geographic Information System and Hydrodynamic Model
Foreword High flows of water is a common problem in most rivers. Earlier generations were more aware of the risks to build close to the rivers and the highest water level was locally known. Nowadays, building permits are more and more frequent below that level. Furthermore, forestry methods with clear cuts and drainage of wetlands result in a more rapid effect of heavy rain fall on the water fl...
متن کاملConfined space manure storage and facilities safety assessment.
A mail survey of 1,200 farms across 16 states was conducted to identify the number, type, and size of manure storages per farm, as well as safety-related behaviors or actions related to entry into confined-space manure storage and handling facilities. Respondents provided data on 297 storage units and facilities, with approximately 75% reporting up to three storages per farm operation. Dimensio...
متن کاملFlood hazard zones using 2d hydrodynamic modeling and remote sensing approaches
Increasing frequency and severity of flooding demands identification of flood hazard zones in Kalilangan, Bukidnon in response to the echoing need of better disaster preparedness via enhancing the understanding and awareness of the public on flood characteristics by integrating the use of two-dimensional hydrodynamic modeling and remote sensing. Flood simulation was carried out in a two-dimensi...
متن کاملPredicting Aspergillus fumigatus exposure from composting facilities using a dispersion model: A conditional calibration and validation.
Bioaerosols are released in elevated quantities from composting facilities and are associated with negative health effects, although dose-response relationships are unclear. Exposure levels are difficult to quantify as established sampling methods are costly, time-consuming and current data provide limited temporal and spatial information. Confidence in dispersion model outputs in this context ...
متن کاملFlood Hazard Assessment Using Panchromatic Satellite Imagery
Panchromatic (PAN) satellite imagery has been used successfully in different applications such as topographic mapping and terrain modelling. Nevertheless, PAN imagery is still one of the less used digital sources for land-change studies except few processes where the high-resolution of the PAN images is used to improve the visualization quality of the multi-spectral images. This research aimed ...
